Exploring Traditional Syrian Children's Games in Egypt

Syrian children living abroad in countries like Egypt often find ways to stay connected to their cultural roots through traditional games and activities. These games serve as a link to their homeland and help them maintain their sense of identity and heritage. In this blog post, we will explore some popular Syrian children's games that are still played by Syrian youth in Egypt. One of the well-known games that Syrian children enjoy playing is "Al-Saa," which translates to "the clock" in English. This game involves a group of children forming a circle and one child standing in the middle as the "clock." The child in the middle closes their eyes while the rest of the group sings a song that includes counting numbers. When the song stops, the "clock" points to a player in the circle, and that player must quickly guess who is pointing at them. If they guess correctly, they become the new "clock." Another popular game among Syrian children in Egypt is "Al-Qulqalah," also known as "the bottle cap game." This game requires players to collect bottle caps and stack them in a pile. Each player takes turns hitting the pile with a shoe from a distance to see how many caps they can knock over. The player with the most successful hits wins the game. Additionally, "Al-Hatoula" is a game that Syrian children love to play outdoors. It involves drawing a large circle on the ground and dividing it into sections with different numbers written inside. One player stands inside the circle and tosses a small object onto one of the numbered sections. The player must then hop on one foot and retrieve the object without touching the lines. The game continues with players taking turns until someone completes all the sections. These traditional Syrian children's games are not only entertaining but also help foster teamwork, creativity, and strategic thinking among the youth in the Syrian community in Egypt. Through these games, children are able to bond with their peers, practice important social skills, and keep their cultural heritage alive. In conclusion, the tradition of playing Syrian children's games continues to thrive among Syrians living in Egypt and serves as a reminder of their rich cultural heritage. These games provide a sense of belonging and nostalgia for children who are far away from their homeland, allowing them to connect with their roots and create lasting memories with friends and family.
